What Am I Doing Wrong

swwd801
Not applicable

I have installed SBE 2015, including two application agents and configured a Full, an Incremental and a Differential backup schedules.  The Full backup runs and successfully completes as intended, however, the Differential runs as a Full backup.

The schedules are set as follows: Full - Monthly (30th), Incremental -Weekly (F) and the Differential - Daily (M-TH).

This is backing up to tape.

Please assist and advise me on what I have done wrong.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Why would you mix DIFF and INCR backups at all? They're probably getting the incorrect information meaning the DIFF believes a FULL hasn't been done. The INCR resets the archive bit, and the DIFF that runs after that basically sees a FULL backup being needed.

Unless you have an explicit requirement for both to run (in which case whether or not this is functionally possible is another topic!), run either DIFF or INCR backup methods.

Thanks!

Unless you have a very good reason, mixing incremental and differential backups is not a good idea, especially when it comes to recovery.  See the first part of my article below
