What Hyper-V cluster components to select in job?

CSG_Prins_Mauri

Hi,

We are using BE2012 and need to back-up our Hyper-V cluster. I am no sure what to select in the jobs selection list.

Do I only select all Cluster Storage Volumes or do I only select the "Microsoft Hyper-V HA Virtual Machines" or do I select both?

Please instruct me on this?

Thanks in advance,

Jasper Kimmel

Am I right when I say that both of you are right. Our virtual machines only use VHD's and no such thing as raw disks or whatever they are called. In this case I only need to select 'Microsoft Hyper-V HA Virtual Machines'.

When I use virtual machines that use the so called raw disks, then I probably need to select all Cluster Storage Volumes and the 'Microsoft Hyper-V HA Virtual Machines' item. To prevent that the VHD's will be backuped twice I need to deselect the VHD's in either one of them.

Correct?

Check in the software compatibility list for the section about Virtual Machines compatibility about which disk are supported for Backups.

If you are running a virtual machine with unsupported disk configuration, you need to install remote agent on that VM and backup as you backup a physical machine. In either ways, Cluster Storage Volumes need not be backed up, only 'Microsoft Hyper-V HA Virtual Machines'
