...it doesn't work AFTER you reboot, or because you don't?

If you don't reboot the beremote.exe service won't start up...which explains why your backups won't work. If you can't restart immediately, you can "fool" BE into thinking the remote server was restarted, but you still need a restart.

* Open the registry and make a backup.

* Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\Backup Exec

* Find the key called PatchReboot and delete it.

* Start up the BE RAWS service.

Thanks!

...it might have to be with something that is upgraded requiring this. if a reboot isn't performed, then functionality might be impaired.

Thanks!

When you install a new version of a program, BE remote agent included, most of the time a reboot is required because some process may be using the old modules so that they cannot be replaced immediately.

If I manually remove old agent and manually install new agent no need to reboot. and all are working.
and I must do it manually, because I can't restart servers.

Well, even during a push install, the reboot is not automatic (forced) unless you have enabled the option to reboot the servers automatically in the install wizard.

...but in case of manually upgrade backups works.
...if need reboot - server do not backup.

...cool, just remember this only buys you time. You probably still need to restart your remote server.

Thanks!

I realize this was a while back bu I am in the same situration.  Only I cannot find a key called PatchReboot only thing I can find is called Reboot Install under a folder called Reboot

Deleting the Reboot folder and key did the trick. Thank you for your post.
