Will 12 servers play nice with 11d?

Hi,
We currently have 4 main backup exec 11d servers, one of which is a CASO, 4 extra agents and 1 exchange agent.
All are currently Windows 2003. As and when we start to migrate these servers to 2008 and backup exec 12, are we required to upgrade every server to backup exec 12 at the same time, or will 11d work with 12? This way we can purchase the upgrade licenses as and when we upgrade each server to 2008.

Many Thanks

A Backup Exec 11 D MMS will be able to connect to a 12 CAS.

Support for running the software in a mixed environment should be restricted to the purpose of facilitating the roll out of an upgrade, and not for regular operations.

When upgrading CAS or MMS systems, the following three points should be taken into account:

1. If possible, it is recommended that the Central Administration Servers (CAS) and all Managed Media Servers (MMS) connected to the CAS be the same version.Support for running the software in a mixed environment should be restricted to the purpose of facilitating the roll out of an upgrade, and not for regular operations.

2. It is recommended that the upgrade be performed in the following order:
  • The CAS server should be upgraded first
  • The MMS servers are upgraded second
  • The Remote Agents should be upgraded last

3. During a CAS server upgrade, it is necessary to disable communications to all MMS servers to avoid database corruption.
