What build/version of Backup Exec do you have? Check in sys:\bkupexec\version.doc for details.

The latest build is available here:

9.1:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/284643

9.2:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/284642

Have you checked this TechNote:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/278129

Also, is name resolution working in BOTH directions between this workstation and the media server?

Version.doc shows:
9.2 build 1401.3

This is new out or the box Dell with XP Pro R2 and a fresh 9.2 install file download. The BE Windows admin installed just fine and works. I do have references to the Novell servers in the hosts file and they can be found by name.

There were no errors during install. I a have alsogone so far as uninstall the Admin console and reinstall with the same results. Java was downloaded from sun.com and appears to be working just fine..

Have a look at the properties for the shortcut icon that launches the admin console. What does the entry for 'target' look like?

Try changing it to:

C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec for NetWare\JRE\bin\javaw.exe" -Xms64M -Xmx818M -jar clientUI.jar

If that doesn't help, how much RAM does this workstation have?

This worked for me.  Thanks Chris!
