a0008212 - changer error - invalid element address

Hello,

I am working with BE 9.1 and the Library LoaderXpress from OVERLAND. Now I changed the Library (the same type, same SCSI-ID´s, only newer firmware) and I cannot move any tape from slot to the drive. Trying to make an inventory of the tapes in the slots, I get only the error - invalid element address.
Testing the new library on another server running with Arcserve2000 it runs perfectly.

Switching back to the old Library is not possible, now it produces the same error !!!! ????
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Thanks

Hello,

Please follow the technote given below.

(title) How to disable, delete, and then again re-enable a device in Backup Exec 9.x and 10.0 for Windows Servers

http://support.veritas.com/docs/268626

Also please check if your device is tested from the link given below. If it is tested then install the latest Veritas drivers.

The devices (roboter and drive) are correctly shown, also the filling content of the slots durig boot time. But after the services are started, no modification of the drives abbr. slots are possible nor displayed.
Is it possible that the sequence of the scsi-ID's makes this trouble? The Roboter (Loader) is ID=6 and the the drive is ID=4

Thanks

Hi Harald,

Yes, it is recommended that the changer be connected to a SCSI Id lower than that of the drive. Also, the SCSI ID 6 is reserved for the SCAM (SCSI Configured Automatically) technique of Microsoft and IDs 0 and 1 are reserved for the bootable disks.

So, you could connect the device between SCSI IDs 2 to 5, ensuring that the changer is at a lower ID.

Hope it helps!
