all device jobs go to a queued status

Backup Exec 2010 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 with external SCSI connected single tape drive (IBM Ultrium III). I am unable to perform a tape erase or inventory on the external SCSI connected tape drive as the jobs go into a queued status almost immediately. The jobs will stay queued overnight. I have already shut the server down, disconnected the drive, started the server up and checked that the drive does not appear in Device Manager then shut the server down again and connected the drive back up and then started the server. The tape drive is recognised correctly in the OS and can be seen in BE but when I attempt an inventory the job to inventory the tape drive stays in a Queued state.

I have run through the device wizard and applied the symantec drivers only to the device. Reboot server. Tape drive recognised in the OS and BE but a job to either inventory or erase tape goes immediately to a Queued state.

Tape diagnostics using IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool GE, comes back with no issues.

I have run up BE Debug Monitor and when I attempt an inventory I get;

A similar recurring set of message about the VSN is reported when an erase tape job is configured to run.

Now I am not sure where to turn as far as pin pointing the cause of my grief. Does anyone have anything helpful to add?

To isolate the issue, create a Backup to disk folder, run few small backup jobs to the B2D.

Perform inventory and erase operations on the B2D. If everything works fine then the issue

is with the hardware.

Added information - I have alread disabled the tape device within BE and then stopped and started the engines and re-enabled the device - with no luck. All the services start correctly. So far the only way I have been able to get the jobs out of a queued status is to reboot the server. This server is dedicated to backups and thankfully I am allowed to reboot it whenever I need to.

Good thinking Amol. I will do this overnight and post tomorrow. Thank you for the direction.

Also open BEutility and check the status of the server if its paused or running.

The Backup to Disk worked a treat and I accept the logic despite what the IBM tool tells me. I will continue hunting the hardware. Thanks again for the hint.
