backing up a workgroup

Can I have Backup exec 2010r3 loaded on a media server and a remote agent on another server just in a workgroup(not a domain) and still do backups? right now it doesnt seem to want to work?

You can backup the workgroup server from a media server which is part of a domain.

You will have to add the workgroup admin account in the Backup Exec.

In BE console, click on Network->Logon Accounts-> add a new account(workgroup admin)

Use the above account while configuring backup job for the workgroup server.

What is the error that you are getting? The error is coming up during backup or while browsing the remote server?

How did you install Remote agent on the server in workgroup?
