backup 2012 agent question

I currently have Symantec backup 2012 on a win 2008 R2 server (non-domain setup). It backs up the main server and a qnap “server” (no iscsi drives) . It complained the other day that I do not have a license for the agent to back up the qnap server. I have no problem in purchasing the agent, but which one do I purchase and where do I install it. Thanks.

Randy

Hi,

Although you don't install it on the qnap server, you need a Remote agent license installed on the media server.

And adding to the above comment, even after installing the license for compliance, there is no way to suppress the warning about remote agent not being present while backing up shares.

One thing that I forgot to add, was that the backup gets backed up to another qnap device. But at least it should still perform the backup of the qnap, right?

Right, even though the remote agent exception occurs, the backup will still run.

would that be a windows agent license or a linux agent license?

A RAWS license, i.e. a remote agent for windows license is required.
