Dear expert, we are planning to buy Veritas backup exec 12.5 in few weeks time. The question is, my boss is asking whether backup exec 12.5 have agent for our Oracle database running on Solaris Sparc? If backup exec 12.5 dont have agent for it, will Netbackup have the agent for us to backup our Oracle running on Solairs Sparc? please help us decide. Thanks
Backup Exec 12.5 doesn't support Oracle on a Solaris server. Backup Exec 12.5 only supports Oracle on Windows and Linux platforms. According to this technote, http://support.veritas.com/docs/279048 , it appears that Oracle is supported on a Solaris platform with Netbackup. Please take a look at this technote to verify that your versions of Oracle and Solaris are supported.

Thanks for the info We have a mixed type of server here, Windows, Netware, UniX SOLARIS (SPARC), VMWARE ESX, Windows NT, Windows 2000. What can u suggest us to purchased? Will Netbackup be the choice of backup solution for our environment?
To any expert, we currently suing Veritas backup exec 9.1 and planning to get symantec backup exec 12.5 soon. The question is, we download 12.5 trial version and test to backup our current server while it is currently backup using the old version. Will the 9.1 remote agent works for the 12.5? I mean, we want to try do a a double backup job by scheduling the new version 12.5 to backup after the server is backup by the old 9.1 version. Is it possible to use both version of backup exec on the remote agent of backup exec 9.1?
