backup exec 2010 can t connect to media server

suddenly backup exec 2010 is promppting for password to connect to media server and it wont start. i noticed that the backup exec server is stopped, I tried to start it but get error "the backup exec serveice on local computer started and then stopped, some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs "

Make sure that the service for the SQL instance BKUPEXEC is started before starting the BE services Have you tried rebooting the media server?

Any particular reason for using the "Local System Account" as the logon account for the BE services ?

Ideally, only the SQL instance (BKUPEXEC) and the Backup Exec Remote Agent Service (amongst the core BE services) use the Local System Account, whereas the other services use a domain administrator account in the format domain/admin

The Admin Service preliminary checks have failed. Please correct any problems and start the service again.

The Vault service Enterprise Vault Admin Service is configured to run under the Local System account. It should be configured to run under the Vault Service Account.

yes the sql service is started before the BE services

...you need to use an account with Domain Admin rights at a minimum which is the preferred use of an account. Check the TN below:

That said, did you make sure the original account wasn't perhaps locked out?

I changed all logon from backup exec services to use local account to a d m i n i s  t rator

when imopen the symantec appliation i get the prompt to connect to media server and when i type the password i get this screen

Not all BE services use the same account. Some require the Domain Administrator account and some require the Local System Account. Have you set it as per the KB article along with the necessary rights which I posted earlier ?

Also, looks like the BE server service fails to start, causing the dependent services to fail. Open a cmd and browse to the Backup Exec directory. Run the following command and attach the output -

beserver.exe -console

Good news, I got it working, can I delete some of the catalog files from this location, I am running out of space

C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Catalogs\ServerName

Nopes, would not recommend deleting files directly from this location.

You can either choose to "Truncate catalogs" and/or move catalogs to an alternate drive. These KB articles will help -

Hi,

After restsrting my server, I opend backup exec and one messge pop up showed on my screen saying "Connect to media Player"

And down in the boottom saying " BAckup exec service on server : stopped"

I opened the service box and tried to restart the service and get the one
