Hello

I have a server with BE 2012 SP1

I have a vsphere 5 with esx 5.0

I'm evaluating BE to use like our vsphere baqckup and also to use sharepoint 2010 agent

I try to backup a VMDK and I have each time the same error vixdisklib_open() you do not have access rights to this file

unable to open a disk of the vm

When i run the job I can see that in esx 5.0 that there is a snapshot who is created

but just afetr it is removed and I have the error message

the security test credentials are ok with the root
As i undestand i do not need to install the be agent on the windows VM as i want to backup the VMDK and not restore files inside

I tried to install it but same pbm

What do I miss tks

Hello there,

Please refer to the following technotes:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH168933 : AVVI backup of virtual machine fails with error "Final error: 0xe0009585 - Unable to open a disk of the virtual machine."

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH163103 : Backup Exec Agent for VMware (AVVI) job of a virtual machine fails with error: "V-79-57344-38277 - Unable to open a disk of the virtual machine. VixDiskLib_Open() reported the error: You do not have access rights to this file."

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH152988 : AVVI backup fails with error "Unable to open a disk of the virtual machine. VixDiskLib_Open() reported the error: You do not have access rights to this file"

Are you directing your backups at the ESX hosts or the virtual center server? The VC being the better option as you don't use the root username/password, but can use the BESA account after it has the required rights to VMware.

Thanks!

Hi,

Below are some tech notes on this error, please have a look it might help,

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH129572

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH168933

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH152988

Also, your understanding is correct that you do not need agent on windows VM if you need just the VM vmdk backup. Agent is required in VM only if you need to GRT restores (individual files/folders, etc. restores)

Thanks,

Try targetting the VC for the backups instead of directly at the host.

BESA = Backup Exec Service Account.
