Check to make sure the account used in VBE is the same about used to start the device & media service.

Jz2600,

Please check that following services are working:

- Server and Workstation

- RPC and RPC Locator

The problem of "Backup Exec services not getting started"may also occur if there are insufficient rights.

Add the Backup Exec service account to local administrator and the Domain Admin's group.Make sure that this account is not a member of backup operators as well as other non-administrative groups.

Ensure that MSSQL$BKUPEXEC service is started and startup type is automatic.

Also check for MDAC discrepancies . This might be caused by version discrepancies with MDAC binaries. A utility supplied by Microsoft called Component Checker can help us to determine which version of MDAC is on the computer and identifies any differences between their current MDAC configuration and a clean MDAC installation.

Component Checker can be downloaded from www.microsoft.com/data

Services:

Server, Workstation, RPC were started

RPC Locator was not. Was manually started and process retried using the VBE services starter. Still hung at the Device and Media service startup.

logon id used for backup exec is a domain admintistrator, administrator, and local administrator (on server where BE is to run). Also listed as Domain User in AD entry (cannot delete, by the way).

MDAC -- 2.8 RTM installed. Variances noted with specific modules as follows:

OLEDB32.DLL Microsoft Data Access - OLE DB Core Services" date="10/28/2003" fileVersion="2.71.9042.0 built by: Lab06_N(_sqlbld

and

msorc32r.dll Microsoft Data Access - ODBC Driver for Oracle Resources" date="03/25/2003" fileVersion="2.575.1022.0 (srv03_rtm.030324-2048

Hello,

Please try doing a reload from base please see the technote below

Note: after doing these steps all media sets, backup-to-disk folders, and other settings will have to be created or configured again.
