is it OK to have my bkupexec exec media server (2010) and Active Directory (Domain Controller) on the same server? Windows Server 2008 R2.

Hi DirkDigs29,

There are those who have done it, and it will often work, but remember that Backups are I/O intensive and can affect the ability for the server to respond to authentication requests and degrade performance when backups are running. For those reasons, we recommend that you install it on a dedicated server. In addition, patches will sometimes require reboots, which can affect DC uptime. All things to keep in mind.

Thanks,
Nick

If the media server is not the only DC in the domain, then it is perfectly fine.  Normally, during the day when authentication is more frequent, BE is not active so thre is no resource contention problem.  In fact, this is a good thing as the media server will be put to use during the daytime when it is inactive.
