catalog disk space

why , after several weeks of running BE9.1 successfully on a W2K server, using a seagate travan tape drive, do I now get an error message saying that there is insufficient disk space for the temparory catalog file - when the server root drive has over 5.8gig and the backup to disk drive has 5.6gig of spare disk space? BE will now only back up to disk and refuses to write to the seagate drive. I have been running BE configured NOT to read any on-media catalogs as I migrated from windows backup and BE could read the data but not the catalog.

No backup tape produced for three days now and the boss is getting HOT

Thanks
