data protection backup operation

Hi,

I have Backup Exec 12.5 rev. 2213 on MS Server 2003 R2 SP2 and have had endless failures since daylight savings kicked in (Australian Easter Standard Time).

Last night's backup produced:

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-65233

Running VSSADMIN LIST WRITERS from the command prompt produced one error:

Writer name: 'Registry Writer'
   Writer Id: {afbab4a2-367d-4d15-a586-71dbb18f8485}
   Writer Instance Id: {43063a84-c3e7-4dfc-a6c7-bb3bd9bd5cdd}
   State: [8] Failed
   Last error: Retryable error

I thus installed WindowsServer2003-KB925066-x86-ENU.exe, however I receive the same Retryable error above.

Point 3 states:

If Last Error states:

- Retryable Error, then retrying the data protection backup operation might resolve the VSS Application Writer's initial failure

Exactly how do I retry the "data protection backup operation"? I cannot find what the "data protection backup operation" is anywhere.

Your assistance is most appreciated.

Cheers, Steve

I would say to reboot the server oin which the writers are failing and then try the same backup job again....

Note: Backups will not run till the writers are in stable state

Thanks,
