file split across two tapes?

dori_bashan

Hello Assuming i have large files for tape backup, (LTO 5), around 200GB per file. When backup exec will have less than 200GB of free space on the existing tape, will it split the backup of the next file across two tapes? or will it skip directly to the new tape leaving free space on the 1st tape? Can i control this setting? Thanks

During a backup, BE will always write a file until the end of the tape and then use the next tape. You have no control over this.

However, before you start a backup, you can decide whether you want to use the remainder space on the tape (append) or write from the beginning of an overwritable tape (overwrite). Append or overwrite is specified in your job

It will split the backup of the next file across two tapes.  BE writes to a tape until the tape drives tells BE that it is full.  The capacity reporting is just for your benefit.
