There is no V-Ray agent.
1) All you need to do is to install the V-Ray licence on the media server
2) push out the remote agent to all your VM's.
3) Add the VMware host to BE using the Add VMware Server button on the ribbon bar on the Backup and Restore tab.
We recently bought a BE2012 v-ray edition and installed it on a windows 2008r2 VM hosted on ESXi
I hope that you are aware that you are using an alternative configuration with all the problems that that entails. See these documents
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH70246

Symantec recommends that you use a physical machine as the media server.

Vray edition consists of 4 licenses
1 BE
1 Agent for VMware and Hyper V
1 Deduplication
1 Agent for Application and databases
You can trial of these by putting a check the these options at the licening page of Backup exec
yellow button > Install agent and options on this media server > Next> Next
Later you can add your vcentre host/esx and backups VMs out of them
You dont any agent to be installed on VMs if you are doing file level GRT restore
You need remote agent to be installed on the VM if you backing up applications like exchange sql sharepoint and active directory (DC)

The user already has the V-Ray licence so why are you talking about a trial?
You dont any agent to be installed on VMs if you are doing file level GRT restore
Can you provide some documentation to support this statement?
You need remote agent to be installed on the VM if you backing up applications like exchange sql sharepoint and active directory (DC)
You only need to install the remote agent in the VM if you want to do GRT restores of these applications. Otherwise, without installing the remote agent, you just backup and restore the entire VM including the applications

Correction for the typo
"You dont any agent to be installed on VMs if you are doing file level GRT restore . "
should be
You dont need agent to be installed on VMs if you are looking for file level GRT and not application level
For application level you do need a remote agent installed during the backup.

However, installing the Windows agent in a VM for file GRT will give you the ability to restore files directly back to the same VM. Without the agent, you can only carry out a redirected restore of files to a machine which does have an agent. It is also Symantec best practise to install the agent on VMs.

The iso will not say VRAY edition . The ISO is the same for all the editions. Its only licenses those change.
