is it safe to upgrade win2k to win2k3 ( running BE 9.1) with B2D

Hi

I ahd been going through threads advising that if one wants to change OS for backup exec 9.x  and in case we dont want to change h/w , moving BE with 9.x  from win2k to win2k3 wont work
instead upgrade win2k to win2k3

are there any case studies is this works fine? are there any issues inin place upgrade.

We have win2000 , BE 9.1  mainly using B2D folders configured on IDE drives .  we have simple volumes on 2 drives( 700 GB each (make hitachi, samsung)) ) alongwith 75Gb system/boot drive.

If I am right , You want to upgrade from Win 2000 to Win 2003 , having BE 9.1 installed on it .

If that is the case you should not have any trouble unless Win 2003 is listed in compatibility list of 9.1.

Please check the below link for BE 9.1 Software Compatibility List .

Let me know if it answers your question.

Hi Zaki,

yeah this is what we have existing server: windows 2000 standard editin running veritas backup exec 9.1

Since as per kb's I didn't find any complete working stepsif I can setup windows 2003 server ( new) and then restore veritas backup exe. 9.1 configuration completely. instead I found thread saying upgrade win2k to win2k3 as Veritas BEDB cannot eb restored if new OS is different from Source one.

our main aim is to have OS windows 2003 with existing 9.1 configuration intact and working.
