is (physical server) disk image backup possible?

Hello,

I am using Symantec BackupExec 2012 (and very new to it). A customer has acquired this product and they require an image backup of their 190 physical servers' C: and D: disks, to each server's own I: drive. I couldn't find any information about how to back up physical servers disks as image backup. Is this possible?

I did some research but as Symantec's terminology is different than from what I am used to, I have yet to make a breakthrough. So far the best replacement I could find for image backups was syntethic backups.

Thanks.

Hi

If you are planning to do Image backup of the server then you would have to use the BESR which perform image level back and not backup exec

Please check below for more information

Thanks

Kind of good advice - except the current product name for BESR is Symantec System Recovery (SSR), whioch incidentally has it's own forum which the OP may want to take a look at.

BESR has been renamed to Symantec System Recovery (SSR).  This is a different Symantec product which does image-based backups.

BE 2012 does not do image-based backups, but it can do bare metal restores using SDR.

Thanks a lot for the fast replies. And I assume that Symantec System Recovery (SSR) requires a different license than BE 2012, right?

It is a different product so you would need to purchase a licence for it.
