The BE 2012 SCL states:

Advanced Open File option is currently not supported for use with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Update 8.

This is why the exceptions are appearing when the file is open during backup. Probably, these files were closed earlier during backup which is why the jobs were successful.

Regardless of which version of BE, to recover a Linux server, you need to reload the OS and then restore the user files that you have backed up with BE

It could be that these files were opened during the backup, exclude these files from your backup job

BE 2012 and above includes Open File Support (OFO) for supported versions of Linux. Have a look at the SCL as to which versions and flavors support OFO.

If OFO isn't applicable for the version which you are using, then open files wouldn't be backed up and such exceptions will appear.

I have check the SCL(Software Compatibility List), and the version of BE which we use includes OFO. These jobs have run successful before, without exceptions.

backup server which BE installed: windows server 2008 r2 enterprise

backup target server: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.8 (Tikange)

Are there any problem when we need recovery?

OFO is enabled by default, but it is meant to backup only files/folders and not system files like that files that are skipped.  This is why you cannot recover a Linux server using BE.  There would be system files which BE will not be able to back up.

So we need to update BE version to 2013. If we don't update, are there any problem when we need recovery?
