Hello,

Please provide the following information:

1  : Number of servers to be backed up using Backup Exec (Excluding the server on which you are planning to install Backup Exec)

2  : Any Specific application you want to backup on the remote server or the BE server.

Are you currently using BE or will this be a new installation?  If you are the latter, you would need a full edition of BE for your media server which is the server that you are going to back up the data to.  If this media server is on a different machine from your 2008 server, then you would need to buy a remote agent for windows server licence, in addition to the full edition of BE.

For the actual cost, you should either contact Symantec Sales or your Symantec reseller.

Hi

We will need one Backup Exec Media server. Teh server whose data is to be backed up is one of client's server (windows 2008)(remote server in sme DC)

so essentially we need to backup on remote server.

we had been use backup exec 9.x however I understand there is no upgrade path available to BE 2010 licensing.

It is not licensing that get upgraded, it is software when you install BE. You can always but the correct license once you have upgraded to a parituclar version.

If you have lot of jobs in 9.x and would like to keep that information then you can upgrade from 9 to 10 and then to 11d. You can do a direct upgrade to 2010 from 11d,12.0,12.5.

If you can create those jobs again then it is better to install a fresh copy.

You can get all the information from this website about the reseller and symatec contacts

Hi all,

I am sorry for taking over the thread but I could not start a new topic. I am having trouble finding a contact number to speak with someone from Licensing about upgrading Backup Exec 12.5 to 2010.

I have tried the number mentioned above, 1800-327-2232, which would not connect and 1-800-721-3934 from the thread below which rings out.

Cheers.
