logon accounts

Im just curious if the logon accounts are encrypted in the pw database in Backupexec. If the remote linux agent is running as root, why do you need a account with root access to connect to the server? I'm concerned about having a root account on the network unprotected. Is this a valid concern?

If you have ideas or are concerned about this I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas (or answers:)

thank you.

Hi Scott,

You do not have to use the root account to connect to the box. You can actually connect through any account you want, as long as that account is placed in the beoper group on the linux box. Beoper just validates that you have privileges on the machine enough to add a user to a group. Once you connect to the RALUS box, all transactions (browse, backup and restore) occur as root.

All passwords are encrypted in our database as well as when they are sent over the wire.

Please let us know if this helps to answer your questions.

Thanks.
