media not found in catalogs

Hi,

I found some media inserted in the backup devise and after I press to Restore Data straight from the media I get error:

The selected media was not found in the catalogs. You mus first catalog the media if you want to use it for the restore operations.

I just wanted to clear that I understand correct. It say that media does not exists in catalogs and all data in media are old and I am save to delete the data in that media?

we use 2 weeks data retention.

Well best thing would be to catalog the tape and see what data you have in it before deleting the tape or overwriting it .

Run inventory on the tape , when you go the properties of the media you can see the media set assigned to the tape and if the media retension period as expired , next time when backup exec need a  tape for a overwrite operation it would overwrite anyway.
