Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices

If a NAS device is emulating a Windows operating system, contact the NAS manufacturer for assistance before creating backup-to-disk folders on the NAS device. Symantec does not certify NAS devices. If the operating system is a proprietary operating system and not a true Windows operating system, Symantec cannot properly troubleshoot the device.

Hi petit,

Your first check should be to see whether or not the NAS is supported as a basic B2D for your version.

Since you've chose 12.x, here are the HCLs for BE 12.0 and BE 12.5:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH55640

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH62114

If the NAS isn't listed as a basic B2D, chances aren't good yours will work. In this case it might also be worth upgrading to BE 2010 R3 as there are a number of devices now supported as basic B2D.

Thanks!

if you cna get hold of a NAS on evaluation - then you can try runnign teh B2Dtest tool against it which might help confirm if it should work.
