I have 3 servers with internal tape drives. Can i use BUE media server(1) and Windows agent(2)? Can I create a backup job for each each server to it's unique tape drive or do I need BUE on each machine?

You would need BE on each of the machine.  BE can only control tape drives that are directly connected to the machine that it is on.

Could you share the main server's tape drive?

I don't know what you mean by share.  If you are backing up the other machines to the main server using BE agents, the backup data will be written to the tape drive that is attached to the server.

Hi,

Nope, you cannot. This shouldn't be confused with sharing a folder/external drive etc. It's a direct-attach to the system, and the SCSI interface/application won't allow that to be shared. It's kind of like sharing a mouse from 1 server to another...not possible.

It IS possible if you had a SAN in place, and had licensed SAN SSO. This would take a SAN-attached library, and share it amongst any other SAN-attached servers with full versions of BEWS installed.

In your case though, not possible with DAS backup devices.

Laters!
