hello

we have 5 backupexec vray licence for 5 vmware hosts, one one win2012r2 physical server, san storage and a tape library all connected to FC switch fabric,

- can we install BE and add all the 5 vray licences on this win server? if yes will it be considered as one BE media server or 5 BE servers?

- in this san architecture, vm backup trafic is transfered via san transport, is it the same thing for application (on the vm) backup job or this trafic will be transfered via lan?

thanks.

When you install the 5 licences on the BE Server, you would be able to backup all 5 VM hosts.

When you are doing any backup, other than VM backup, the data will go through the LAN.

thanks pkh for reply

so this is a one BE server installation with multiple vray licences and then no need for an entreprise server option licence on this server in order to transfer backup trafic via san to the tape library.

is it right?

the SAN SSO part of ESO is  specifically used when trying to share a SAN connected tape library with more than one Backup Exec (BE) server, it has nothing to do with using SAN transport against VMware backups (even if writing the backup to a SAN connected devcie, if that device is only connected to one BE server)

The key point of this being SSO stands for Shared Storage Option with emphasis on the term "Shared" being sharing between separate BE servers
