problem with backup exec 12.5 and windows server 2019

back in the day, i was a veritas reseller. i've had an nfr copy of backup exec 12.5 that i've been using since around 2010. it's worked fine through windows server 2019, performing upgrade over upgrade since i got it..

i upgraded to server 2022 from 2019 and all of my backup jobs seemed to work fine, i was getting all of my status emails.

but when i tried to open the gui, it would show the splash screen and immediately close. i tried all of the compatibility options, nothing worked

so i figured i would just go back to 2019, even though it was necessary to do a clean install. backup exec does the same thing, opens and then closes. don't know why it worked after upgrading from server 2016 to 2019, but it won't work now.

does anyone have any ideas?

Its nice to see 12.5 working with newer OS release. Take a look at the latest release which is supported on the new OS https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100040087

Regarding the issue you face with BE , see if you can uninstall these KB and check if it works

windows 2019 - KB4486153
windows 2016 -  KB4486129

thanks. removing KB4486153does correct the issue. i know a newer version will fix it, but i'm retired, but still use my server for storing my data. i'm one person, don't need cloud, don't need bare metal restore, don't need sql, don't need exchange. just want to back up my data to a local rdx drive
