restore partly overwritten tape

Hi,

is it possible to recover data from a partly overwritten lto7 tape?

the first backup was 215 gb and it is overwritten with 30gb. so probably 185gb is still recoverable?

 I tried already recatalogging with and without "use storage based catalogs"

No. This is not possible. The previous data are not accessible

BackupExec does not do a Full Erase when overwriting a tape, but does do a Quick Erase (that is re-writes the Header Information)

Once this has happened, BackupExec cannot access the old data, even though it is still on the tape. A Data Recovery Company MAY be able to get the data back using special utilities, but no guarantees

... and the tape cannot have been encrypted for a data recovery company to have any chance of retrieval so don't waste any money if you know you encrypt your tapes.
