Hi

i have Sony SATA AIT drive connected to very simple belin sata controller, in small business server 2008 with bews 12.5.

whenever i run a backup to tape with verify on it fails with inconsistent data error.

i turn off verify its ok.

i backup to hard disk all ok.

when itry and restore the file from tape it fails with inconsistency errors.

All equipment is brand new out of box 48 hours, tape drive passed all the sony Tape analysis tests.
When i put the controller in another server with server 2003 std edition NT backup is ok, verifies ok and restores ok.
Install BEWS 12.5 onto the same server and i get same inconsistency issues.

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Jez

Jez,

What is the make/model of the tape drive?

Follow the directions in this technote to run a SCSI Trace while the backup/verify is running, then post the .bin file to your post and I will review it when I have a few minutes. http://support.veritas.com/docs/285630

Exactly what brand & model of SATA controller are you using?  Does it support RAID?  What is the exact error and link message you get?

This may be relevant:

The original controller supports raid.  i will refit the belkin and run job again wih scsi trace and repost tomorrow

Hi

I refitted the original Belkin SATA Controller and the SDX-570V AITi200-ST (AIT-2 Turbo S-ATA), ran a file backup and experienced the same issue on verify.

I then ran job again and attemted to run SCSI trace from tracer.exe but got ;

"The capture provider 'rptool' failed to open: Could not open the driver because it is not installed, or because no tape or changer class devices are attached to the local system."

This seems to point to unsupported hardware and asks me to check HCL, http://support.veritas.com/docs/318323 .

I did and the drive is shown there, so is it a controller issue?

I saw a couple of posts regarding missing tpfilter.sys from windows\system32\drivers but its there ok.

I have tried the two Dynamode pci sata controllers and one blue screened the server on startup and the other made the tape drive do weird things with lights flashing etc.

All help greatly appreciated

Thanks
