Hi,
When you run a backup/restore job via the LAN network, is it possible to use a separate LAN network for the backup/restore data transfer from the network used for backup/restore command? Or these have to use the same network segment? I know there's setting to specify a certain network segment for backup but I don't think you can separate the two to use separate networks. Is this understanding correct?

yes you can but name resolution needs to resolve to ip addresses on the secondary network for any communication requests from BE server to remote server AND remote server to BE server. In a typical DNS environment this will means using hosts files (as you want the DNS server to return the primary network for other comms)
It can therefore be tricky to use a backup LAN in distributed configurations (i.e,. clusters, DAGs, Sharepoint farms etc)
