Hello,
Whenever I reboot my server Backup exec services do not start even if they are set automatic, then I go to Tools -> Backup Exec Services and click Start All services then it works fine.
What might the problem be?
Thanks,
Jim.

You have a timing issue with other services also trying to start up. If you wait a few minutes after you log on to the server and the services have not started, check event viewer and you will probably see an error which states the services failed to start in the alloted time.

If you are trying to launch BE immediately after logging into the server, you will get the error as well if the services are still in the process of starting. Wait a few minutes after a reboot to try launching the BE UI.

Either way, it's mostly just an environmental issue on your server, nothing is wrong. The OS is just trying to start too many services all at the same time so some will time out.

Thanks for the reply I have two servers, on server 2000 I do not have problem, but server 2003 I have this problem. . I need to get backup services start automatically. Is there a command line option to start services?

Hello,

- Do Backup exec services start when the startup type is Manual?
- Is there any error generated when starting the services?
- Are there any event ids related to Backup Exec?

This is the warning I get on MSSQL$BKUPEXEC

SuperSocket info: (SpnRegister) : Error 1355.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I do not see any other message.

I also get this in the system event:

The Backup Exec Device & Media Service service terminated with the following error:
The database specified does not exist.

Hello,

Do you have SQL installed on the Backup Exec media server? If so, refer to the following technote:

Title:After rebooting the Backup Exec media server, the Microsoft Windows Application log displays a warning event ID 19011.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/255139

Try out the steps suggested in the technote given below in order to resolve the problem:

Title:VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 Device and Media Service will not start with the error: "The database specified does not exist."
http://support.veritas.com/docs/267799

Hope this helps. If the issue persists, do write back to the forum. However if we do not receive your update within two business days, this post would be marked ‘assumed answered’ and would be moved to ‘answered questions’ pool.
