sql 2000

Level 2

I have a esx 5.1 environment that is part of a backup job, the vm is windows 2003 with sql 2000. I know sql 2000 is not supported but is there any way to omit sql specifically from the backup job so that it is not classed as failed everyday with the following error

Backup- VMVCB::\\x.x.x.x\VCGuestVm\(DC)ha-datacenter(DC)\vm\xxxx
V-79-57344-38749 - Backup Exec was unable to prepare Microsoft SQL resources for Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) operations.  Therefore you will be unable to perform GRT-enabled restores of Microsoft SQL data for 'xxxx\MSSQLSERVER' from this backup.

Thanks

James

Hi James,

Have you tried to put in a normal exclusion for this?

Otherwise you might have to look at doing a normal RAWS-based backup on a file level...just create a job within SQL to dump the SQL DB to disk each night and then back that up.

Thanks!

When you backup a VM as a VM, there is no way to exclude a specific resource

Why don't you turn off SQL/Application GRT in the job (if needed by moving this VM to it's own job so you don't tun off SQL GRT for other VMs)
