unnecessarily tapemovement

Today i was watching a tape backup job.

It started really well. but after 27GB it didn't show any progress. it looked stuck at loading media.
checked the tapelibary. and it was actualy moving the tape from drive back to slot. and from slot back to drive.
the backup continues. everybody happy. however a few minutes later (around 60GB) the same thing happens.
and 130GB again. the job is around 9TB.....

When thinking about this. there is only one explaination that comes to my mind. the sizes are the volumes (used space) inside the server starting by the smallest.

however it didn't make sense to continue move the tape.

Some information
the tapelibary is an HPE MSL3040 withe 2 partitions, and 2 tapedrives. (LTO7 and LTO9)
the job above is using the LTO9 drive. However it looks like the LTO7 does the same.

Both jobs i checked are Agent jobs (They are the one currently running) and i didn't check the Hyper-V jobs.

was it writing to same tape still after moving the tape in slot and then back ?
Seems the job is still running but once it completes can you upload the job log.
Do you see any events specific to library or backup in Application or system event logs

Hey @Gurvinder

Thanks for the quick response. is is using the correct tape. (until it is full, then it would switch to the next one as expected)

the windows eventlog isn't that helpfull. the MSL log shows that it moves a tape... thats al.

Attached the (redacted) LTO7 job wich ran out of time.... (another problem. we can ignore that.)
the LTO9 job will be running for the rest of the day. so no log today

Is there also a log from the library which shows the movement of tape in and out of the slot ? I saw this Job Log and it does not show device and media mount and dismount request for the tape but it was switching between the dedupe media to duplicate the data out of it.

it isn't the best log to read.

please note the timezone is missing in the log (+2 hours)

Do you observe this issue with particular jobs or with all the jobs ? I havnt seen this behavior that a job would dismount/move tape to the slot, again move it back and then continue writing on it.
Can you start SGMON.exe from BE Install Path. Select (from capture ) Job Engine, device and media ( from settings -> enable verbose for device and media ( pvlsvr )  Then start the job which shows this behavior. Would  be nice to capture this one time. Is this seen with duplicate job or backup job or with both ?
