upgrade from 10.0.5484 to 10.0.5520 => error

Hi!

The upgrade failes with the foillowing error in the bkupinst.log: ERROR: Installation failed with error 1603.

I have run both a traditional upgrade with everything in place and running but also I tried to first remove the files in C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT and only keep the data folder for the MSDE settings to be preserved but with no luck.

The 5484 is running fine now but I want the updated 5520 in my system... Please advice what to do, thank you in advance.

Ensure that system has sufficient permission to run the installation, please review the following document to check if System has sufficient permission:

Hi and thank you for your reply.

I have checked the permissions for SYSTEM and it was correct (full access inherited).

Any other ideas?

Hello,
Have you tried Upgrading to the latest Version 10.1 instead of 5520?
- Could you also give us a detailed Error message?
- Also please check if there are any events in the event logs.

If i'm not missinformed the 10.1 requires a new licens?
I only want the security updates for now...

Unfortunately no resent logging has been done to the msde_bkupexec.log.

Hello,


The part of the msde log sent by you is not of much help.
So can you just try once more to search an error msde_bkupexec.log file ? For that....open that file...press Ctrl F .....in Find window....type "return value 3"....if you find it....send us the first error of return value 3.
