Hi,

Nope, no direct upgrade path from 10d to 2012...you need to upgrade to 11d at a minimum, and then upgrade to BE 2012...check the links below. They're ery comprehensive and will help you prepare properly:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH159557

http://www.symantec.com/theme.jsp?themeid=backup-exec-2012

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH180232

BE 2012 is totally different, so make sure you have gone through the last 2 links...

Thanks!

The minimum version for direct upgrade to BE 2012 is BE 12.5. Check the SCL below

BE 2012 SCL

Before you proceed with the upgrading, do read my article below

Hi Nealroy

Going through you question

I am running backup exec 10r and upgrading to backup exec 2012 standard. ???

There is no direct upgrade path available . You have to follow multistep upgrade

If you are using  10d then you will be able to upgrade to 12.0 and from 12.0 you need to upgrade to 12.5 or 2010 r3  and  then only  you can upgrade  2012

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH68071

My question is: version 10r is installed on the C partition and I would to install 2012 on a different partition can i do this ????

This is not possible with backup exec that you can install 2 versions in 2 partitions

and policies on 10r will be imported to 2012 version???

Backup Job Policies - While there is no longer a “Policy” container for Job Definitions per se, the Job Definition essentially serves the same function, but is created in a more automated fashion.

So if you have any policy basesd job they will be spilt according to new paradigm of backup jobs in 2012

...most of this was already answered above, and the OP's question #2 is around moving the installation from C:\ to another partition...not having them co-existing on the same system...

Thanks!
