vCenter backup fail

I keep running into the same issue where BE2014 will error out when it reaches vCenter in the VM backup scheme.

I get the following messages whether BE is backing up the whole datacenter or backing up the indivual VM.

vcenter test-Backup -- The job failed with the following error: An attempt to take a snapshot of a virtual machine failed because it was unable to quiesce an application.

A quiesced snapshot could not be created for the virtual machine (DC)ha-datacenter(DC)\vm\Vcenter.

Is vCenter supported in BE2014?

I think it's the same method, but I found this article yesterday and today the snapshot backed up with quiescing and I'm monitoring the BE2014 backup right now. Seems to be working.

FYI, used option 2 on the vmware KB to get it to work.

Yes but check the Backup Exec SCL to make sure your version of Vcenter is supported http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH217478

also take a look at the Best Practices for the VMware Agent http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO74443

As a test, try disabling Application GRT and rerun the backup.

Ran the job without GRT and the vcenter is 5.5 GA  build # 1312298 which looks like is compatible.

Still getting the same error. Could it be snapshot related?

BE should be able to backup vcenter while running correct?.

Are you able to take a manual snapshot of the vCenter via the VI client itself ? Uncheck the 1st option (snapshot VM's memory) and check the 2nd one (quiesce) and then try taking and deleting the snapshot of the vCenter VM.

A manual snapshot using BE or a snapshot using the vsphere client?

I'm assuming you want vsphere client since the uncheck options are for VI client?

via the VI client.

Received the following error when creating a snapshot of the VM using the suggested settings. (uncheck vir mem and check quiesce)

"The guest OS has reported an error during quiescing. The error code was: 3 The error message was: Error when notifying the sync provider."

When I created another snapshot including the Virtual Mem and not checking the quiesce option, then the snapshot was successful.

1) Is the host licenced for VADP (vStorage API)?  This only comes with the paid version of ESXi and is needed by BE.

2) Push out the remote agent again to the VM and try again.

Try this KB as well - http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1028881

Once its enabled, retry snapshot via the VI client and a backup via BE as well.
