Hi Guys

Many people and myself many times came through this error

i have also locked the call to symantec and ask on forum , they told me the same.

when i ran the command vssadmin list writers

it gives Microsoft Exchange Writer: Retryable Error

, i have checked many symantec tech notes on it .

and in short i summarised it that we have to reboot the exchange server

Find the TECH NOTE here

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH181190

Cause

This issue is normally caused because the “Microsoft Exchange Writer” is not working properly. You can verify its status with the “vssadmin list writers” command:

Writer name: 'Microsoft Exchange Writer'
Writer Id: {76fe1ac4-15f7-4bcd-987e-8e1acb462fb7}
Writer Instance Id: {2999e0a2-76fa-4a2a-a0e5-16094458a1b6}
State: [1] Stable
Last error: No error

The Status must be “Stable” unless a snapshot is being taken. If the status is different than “Stable” (for instance “Waiting for completion”) and any snapshot is not being taken, it means that the writer is not functioning properly.

If the Exchange backup is performer on the passive node, the writer used is called “Microsoft Exchange Replica Writer”

Solution

Contact Microsoft support to solve issues with the Exchange Writer. Sometimes this issue is solved rebooting the Exchange server or restarting the Exchange Services on the effected client.

If the Exchange databases are stored in a smart disk array, the writer can be developed by a third company, so verify who creates the snapshot with the following command:

C:\>vssadmin list providers
vssadmin 1.1 - Volume Shadow Copy Service administrative command-line tool
