CloudPoint: Unable to delete AWS snapshots

jkibbee

I am working on a trial of CloudPoint 1.0.2 with AWS and I am having trouble deleting snapshots. The admin guide is very unclear about what IAM permissions need to be setup to allow snapshots to be deleted. Here is what I am seeing in the logs.

ClientError: An error occurred (UnauthorizedOperation) when calling the DescribeVolumes operation: You are not authorized to perform this operation.
Nov 13 13:02:29 f7a90ebef89b flexsnap-agent[515] flexsnap.agent: ERROR - An error occurred (UnauthorizedOperation) when calling the DescribeVolumes operation: You are not authorized to perform this operation.

Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

Hi.

So, with CloudPoint 1.0.x release, the expectation is that - the Accont with which the AWS Plugins are configured should have permission to do following things:

  1. Discovery snapshots, EBS Volumes, EC2 Instance, AMIs, VPCs, Subnets & other networking components etc
  2. Take Snapshot of EBS & EC2
  3. Delete Snapshot
  4. Create EBS Volumes & Create EC2 Instances

So, if the plugin is configured without these permissions, then it could fail.

Apologies for the incovenience caused by poor-documentation. We will make sure that it's updated with essentials.
