ASM in VCS help

Having trouble understanding and configuring VCS 5.1 sp1 for rhel5.  Single Oracle instance.  We are using ASM and have not done so in VCS.  Does ASM need to be a seperate service group or a resource of the oracle service group?  Can the ASM disk and the oracle Data disk be in the same DG?  I can get VCS to start on my nodes and get the oracle service group to start up, but as soon as I introduce ASM all hell breaks loose.  Any help or working main.cf snippets would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry - I don't have main.cf example - just the manual:

Veritas Cluster Server Agent for Oracle Installation and Configuration Guide

For ASM-managed databases, you must start an ASM instance before you start
the database instance. The ASM instance mounts ASM disk groups and makes
ASM files available to database instances.
ASMrequires Cluster Synchronization Services to enable synchronization between
an ASM instance and a database instance.

See Appendix B for sample configurations. Each sectioncontains diagrams as well as sample main.cf.

Sample configuration for ASM disks as raw disks
If you use raw devices as ASM disks, you can configure your service group in the
following way:
■ Oracle and ASMDG resources as parent failover service groups, and ASMInst
resource as parallel service group
■ The service groups are made dependent using an Online Local Firm dependency.
Figure B-6 describes a typical service group with ASMInst resource as a parallel
service group.

Sample configuration for ASM disks as VxVM volumes
Figure B-8 describes a typical service group with VxVM disks chosen for Oracle
ASM.

Sample configuration for ASM disks as CVM volumes
Figure B-10 describes a typical service group withCVMvolumes chosen for Oracle
ASM.

Could you say when raw disks are used and when VM volumes are used?
