Cluster Failover validation checklist

timus

Hello,

I need to validate the existing cluster configuration of our environement (RHEL 5 with VCS 5.0MP3)

Is there a document or checklist for VCS failover validation without impacting the production environement?

I don't want to do actual failover testing, but only want to make sure that the existing clusters are properly configured and the applications will failover to the designated failover node when needed.

would appreciate if someone can give me a step by step procedure to validate failover configurations.

Thanks

Hi Timus,

You can also check into the Risk Assessment Checklist on the http://sort.symantec.com web site.

You can run the risk assessment utilities and generate reports on common issues found in your environment.  There are many platforms and software versions supported.

Thanks,

Wally

VCS Simulator can be used to test the configuration / validate failover behaviour.

From VCS 5.0MP3 (Linux) User's Guide -> Administration-Putting VCS to work -> Predicting VCS behavior using VCS Simulator -> About VCS Simulator

https://sort.symantec.com/public/documents/sf/5.0MP3/linux/html/vcs_users/ch_vcs_simulator.html

--------------------
VCS Simulator enables you to simulate and test cluster configurations. Use VCS Simulator to view and modify service group and resource configurations and test failover behavior. VCS Simulator can be run on a stand-alone system and does not require any additional hardware.

VCS Simulator runs an identical version of the VCS High Availability Daemon (HAD) as in a cluster, ensuring that failover decisions are identical to those in an actual cluster.

You can test configurations from different operating systems using VCS Simulator. For example, you can run VCS Simulator on a Windows system and test VCS configurations for Windows, Linux, and Solaris clusters. VCS Simulator also enables creating and testing global clusters.

You can administer VCS Simulator from the Java Console or from the command line.
--------------------

See the VCS User's Guide for further details for installation/using VCS Simulator
