LVM + multipath + diskreservation on VCS 6.2

Hello

I have questions about the usage of LVM with multipath on VC 6.2.

In our environnement we have :

  • VCS 6.2 (I don't have storage fundation)
  • The nodes are virtual machine with redhat 6.5.
  • The iscsi lun are presented from netapp cluster cmode using ALUA.
  • On the redhat nodes we use the default multipath tools => device-mapper-multipath.
  • We use LVM on the luns.

The document say the diskreservation is not supported on multipath. Can someone just confirm me that ?

I would like to know if there something to replace diskreservation to prevent lun to be monted from 2 nodes in the same time in my situation.

I know I can use lvm tagging but I not sure it's really a good protection.

Any suggestion is welcome.

Regards

Mickael

Hi Mickael,

VCS does not support Disk Reservation for disks under LVM control. LVM tags can be used to prevent concurrent volume group activation, but will not protect from direct writes to the disk.

You can configure fencing using co-ordiantion point servers for arbitration but you would still risk on data protection.

Hi,

I have used the LVM tagging Attribute in the past on a VCS+RHEL setup.
And it worked very good before.

Kind regards,
Sander
