SFW-HA : Question re clustering of existing SQL database

Customer's application vendor was asked if they foresee any problems with clustering of existing SQL database. Their response: We have COM+ components running from the Data and report SQL database back to our application.  Usually this causes hair raising issues for the sql administrators in a cluster, as you then have to allow for OLE create permissions, the servers running against the same local security context as our application users to allow for the COM+ authentication etc.  I am thus not saying it is impossible, but you might have to lose some functionality in your system that relies on these layers as they “should” usually not be transported to the cluster environment. In all honesty - we have no idea what this means. As far as I know, all comms with database should be against the virtual name / IP and should therefore not cause any problems. Any advise from list members?

So long as the components communicate through a VIP/IP and named instance which we can manage, then what does it care?  As for user security, would it not be integrated into AD?  If not, then each node would have to have the same required security configuration – but that is an application dependency and the vendor should be able to provide this information.
