The VCS 5.0mp3 Live Upgrade upgrade is documented in the VCS 5.0MP3 Install Guide, starting on page 174.

The SF-CFS 5.0 mp3 upgrades are not supported via Live Upgrade. To save time, the Storage Foundation and VCS upgrades can be done via LiveUpgrade, and then the remaining SF-CFS upgrade after the system is booted into the upgraded boot environment. (Note SF-RAC 5.0mp3 does support LiveUpgrade.
ftp://ftp.entsupport.symantec.com/pub/support/documentation/sfrac_install_sol.pdf page 194.)
Before upgrading to SF-CFS 5.0mp3,
-- I would disable the VCS rc scripts (llt, gab, vxfen) to stop the system from attempting to automatically bring up cvm.
-- Also, when upgrading SF-CFS 5.0 mp3, please split and unencapsulate any root disks to avoid a known issue that may make the system unbootable. ( Splitting and unencapsulating the root disks also provides for a quick backout procedure if not using Live Upgrade.)
The 5.0mp3 upgrade is significant, and testing the upgrade at your site is recommended before upgrading production systems.
If you have further questions, or issues during the upgrades, please contact Symantec Technical Support.
