VCS 4.1 with Oracle 11g R1 on SLES 10

We have the following setup:-

  Basic oracle database failover from one node to another

  DB : Oracle 10.2.0.4

  VCS : 4.1

We upgraded the database to 11g R1 and and modified the cluster configuration path to 11g. When we tested the failover, DB failed over properly from one node to another whereas the listener was not failing over to another node.

What could be the problem, Please suggest a solution to fix it without performing any cluster software upgrade. We do not want any new features of the latest cluster software but we want the basic DB failover.

The problem is that Oracle 11g is not supported on VCS 4.1.

- Oracle 8.0.x, Oracle 8.1.x, Oracle9i, and Oracle 10g, including 64-bit versions

Although you mentioned you did not want to upgrade the cluster software, unfortunately there is no alternative if you want to run Oracle 11g, as the old version of VCS you are using does not support that version.

It appears support for Oracle 11gR1 was introduced in 5.0MP3

We have VCS and volume manager in the same machine. Can I just upgrade vcs alone from 4.1 to 5.0MP3 and leave the volume manager on the 4.1 version.

Is there any proper steps to upgrade VCS?.

It is possible to upgrade VCS to 5.0MP3 and still use VxVM/VxFS 4.1.
