VCS and DNS

"DNS scavenging affects virtual servers configured in VCS because the Lanman agent uses Dynamic DNS (DDNS) to map virtual names with IP addresses. If you use scavenging, then you must set the DNSRefreshInterval attribute for the Lanman agent. This enables the Lanman agent to refresh the resource records on the DNS servers".

Is it required to set DNSOptions to "UpdateAll" and DNSRefreshInterval to "1", for updates to DNS to function every 24 hours?

DNS scavenging is active and clears some DNS entries, unless they are manually created.  With VCS 5.1, we can set the above attributes, but what is default recommendation?

Thanks!

Hi Ash22,

The DNSOptions attribute can be set to what you need it to.

The DNSRefreshInterval is set to the number of seconds to wait between DNS refresh operations.  If you are looking for a 24 hour refresh interval you should set this attribute to 86400.

I'm also assuming that you are using DNSUpdateRequired and optionally using DNSCriticalForOnline attributes.  These determine how VCS will update DNS during the online of the lanman resource.

More details about the Lanman Agent and its attributes can be found in the bundled agents guide.  Here is a link to the 5.1 SP2 bundled agents guide.  Lanman can be found starting on page 57 with the DNSRefreshInterval on page 65. (The lanman agent has not changed in the 5.1/sp1/sp2 versions) :
