Re: plex

the vxvm object plex was introduced very long time ago in old versions like 2.* and 3.*, at that time, lvm was not popular at all.

One of the reasons to have vxvm plex object is for dealing with very complex vxvm features which are way beyond contact volume layout (like layered vol, volume snapshot, site mirror, off-host data copy, storage tires, dg join/split etc)

Re: plex

the answer to your first question is to run the commands below

#vxdctl enable

#vxdisk list <disk_name>

the second question regarding why having plex lobject in vxvm is beyond the scope of this forum.  anyway, read vxvm admin guides and the technotes like one listed below

http://sort.symantec.com/public/documents/sf/5.0/aix/html/vxvm_admin/ag_ch_intro_vm7.html

Re: plex

hi,

i think that the plex is chosen in order to controll better the things over lvm.

vxdisk will show disk online or offline?

tnx
