Here is a question that the Data Insight product team received, and thought it would be useful to share the answer with the community:
What about the question of someone trying to make unauthorized connections? In addition to the authorization – don’t we also encrypt/SSL secure the communication?

Here is the answer from the Data Insight product team:
Our communication with the web service is based on the same protocol (http/https) that the websites use. If the sharepoint sites are configured to use https, SDI client uses https to connect to the web service. We do not do any special encryption on our part. The question of unauthorized access to our web service is the same as unauthorized access to their sharepoint environment because the authentication model is the same.
