DLO Error: There is a problem with configuration on this computer. The Desktop Agent will remain disabled until the problem has been corrected by your administrator. Your administrator has been notified

Hello,

Some of my users have their DLO clients disabled when they log in to a machine. The clients show the following error until the user opens the DLO Interface and clicks Refresh:

"There is a problem with configuration on this computer. The Desktop Agent will remain disabled until the problem has been corrected by your administrator. Your administrator has been notified"

I have checked KB: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH159010  which seems like it should fix the problem but it does not.

All the users/machines that are having this issue were on a different DLO server but that server was retired and a new one created. A user that has never before logged into the client computer doesn't have this issue, their DLO client starts up just fine. My major concern is that someone is going to do a lot of work on a machine and not have any backups because their DLO client is disabled.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Eric

Ensure the 'problematic' users have full permissions on the NUDF (Network User Data Folder)

Verify the registry entries on the client machines:-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Symantec\Symantec DLO\Client
Verify the value of "DefaultMediaServer" key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Symantec\Symantec DLO\DB
Verify the value of "DBServer", "DBName", "DBInstance keys"

Lastly, try these steps one by one to check which resolves the error:-

1) Close the Desktop Agent. Delete the .settings directory from C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Symantec\DLO and relaunch the Desktop Agent.

2) Uninstall and re-install the DLO Agent software

3) Delete and re-add the user in DLO Admin Console

Are you facing this issue with all the users or some users.

Try to give Full Control permission on the NUDF storage location for everyone and see if the concerned uses DLO Agent is loaded properly. If yes than there is a permission issue. Reove Full Control from NUDF for every one.

Also check if UAC is enabled on the DLO server or the client server and if there is Firewall.

Also you can exit the DLO Agent from the client system and delete the .settings folder from

C:\Users\<userprofile>\AppData\Local\Symantec\DLO\ for (Windows 7)

C:\Documents and settings\<userprofile>\Local settings\Application Data\Symantec\DLO\

The solution was to delete C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Symantec\DLO before reinstalling the client.

Thanks!
