Hi,
I don't want user to do DLO backup and restore while connecting with VPN. Available while connecting with company network
Which port(s) should be blocked ?
Thanks

These ports differ from environment to environment and should be obtained from your network admin.
What you can instead do in DLO is to setup a connection policy.
Edit the Profile, and click on the Connection Policies tab. and here you can specify which IP range addresses should be used for backup and which should not be.

Hi,
Just added this policy. Client can't backup through specificed IP range.
After clicked "Run job", no log / alert to user.
Is it normal ?
Thanks

Is the IP address of the client allowed for backup or not ? If not, the backup will run to the local folder, but will not run to the network folder.

I have added this IP range to disable network backup.
- What's the path of the local folder ?
- Will the job start automatically after connected to allowed network ?
Thanks

The default path is C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Symantec or C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Symantec depending upon the client OS.
Yes, the network copy will start automatically.

What is the status of the backup from the client UI ?
01-22-2015 12:36 AM
Since IP range of VPN network was added. After connected to VPN, Agent changed to "Working offline"

When the status is working offline, and if the local user data folder is enabled, the backups are stored locally on the client. And if the backups have already run, you will find the data at C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Symantec\DLO\.dlo\.lm

How to Enable / Disable Local user data folder ?
01-22-2015 02:04 AM
This can be done from the Profile settings itself. Do keep in mind, this local folder is required for other features of DLO such as DeDupe, Delta File Transfer etc.

- What's Delta File Transfer ?
- Since no Dedupe server configured, then no local folder use ?
- Any message can show while backup failure ?
- If no local desktop folder is used, can I limit server side storage in DLO ?
Thanks !

1) Delta File Transfer is a compression technique which transfers "incrementals" of the data from the local folder to the network folder.
2) If there is no DeDupe, you can disable local folder if needed.
3) If there a backup failure, a message will be shown when you open the Desktop Agent UI.
4) Whether local folder is used or not used, you can still limit network storage folder.
I would strongly recommend to have a read at the Admin Guide and especially at the Profile tabs. Since the Profile tab itself contains the settings and an explanation as well.
